Patricia Slavin looks at how the business has evolved over time and what makes Affinity unique in a competitive marketplace.

In 2004 I had the opportunity to establish a Company which was different from our competitors, with the emphasis on yachting clients following the success of the newly formed superyacht register in the Isle of Man, a new drive for the Isle of Man which I was fortunate to be involved with from the start.

The benefit of initially focusing on the yachting sector was that you quickly developed relationships with clients, often from an entrepreneurial background, who demanded attention to detail and excellent service. As a budding entrepreneur and the sole employee of Affinity I quickly recognised that if I met client expectations, demanding as they can often be, I would win and retain business. I never said ”no” or “can’t do” – the trick was to always find a workable solution. As a result, many clients that I took on in 2004 are still clients today, and they have gone on to do other work with us in different sectors , including Aviation, Commercial and Residential Property, Trust and general Corporate services.

Whilst many of our competitors have relied upon business acquisitions as a primary form of growth in recent years, we have focussed on healthy organic growth through referrals from a network of trusted intermediaries and existing clients. We are very proud that the business remains debt free allowing us to be flexible and diverse which has resulted in continued growth year on year. Our focus has always been on providing excellent service and delivering results. I have been very fortunate to recruit likeminded dedicated people who have shared my vision for the business and who have worked with me to make the business what it is today.

Where are we now?

In 2011 we acquired a small local IOM CSP and established Affinity Management Services (Malta) Limited. We also diversified into several other sectors, such as Aviation and E-Gaming both in the Isle of Man and Malta.

The business has grown from just me to 30 employees across both offices and we continue to increase our market share and recruit new staff. Our mantra has remained the same- deliver excellent service, with attention to detail, never say no, always have a solution and make yourself available to your clients. We continue to deliver highly professional services to clients who demand and expect quality. Our greatest asset is our staff and their ability to make every client feel like they are our only client.

Over the years I have encountered many diverse, complicated and demanding clients. However, my team and I pride ourselves on understanding our client and delivering excellent service with the utmost integrity and attention to detail. In a nutshell, we care about what we do……
